Inland Products Inc. brings a simple, straightforward wireless keyboard and mouse combo to the market in the form of the Inland Pro Wireless 2.4GHz Optical Mice Keyboard Combo Set. Though it is lacking many desirable extras that are found in other combos on our lineup, it offers the user a clean wireless solution to that tangled wired mess that exists on your desk.

This keyboard is one of the least expensive on our list and still measures up to our standards for the best by delivering a 33-foot wireless range with 2.4 GHz connectivity. Its plug-and-play setup is impressive – simply plug in the USB receiver, allow your computer to sync to the mouse and keyboard, and seconds later you're ready to go. Many wireless keyboard and mouse combos require a software installation to be up and running, so we appreciate the effort Inland Products put into this feature. The manufacturer scores again by designing both the wireless keyboard and the optical mouse to use only one AA battery each and to automatically enter into sleep mode after eight minutes of inactivity, extending battery life. As an added bonus, the mouse has a power switch for saving battery life when not in use, and the keyboard can be powered off by holding down any key for 15 seconds. The only downside is that there are no indicator lights to help you know whether they are on, off, asleep or dead.

As far as design goes, this keyboard and mouse combo is pretty basic – nothing fancy here. The keyboard measures 1.8 inches tall and 20 inches long, and weighs 1.61 pounds. It has a standard layout except for an enlarged enter key, which forced the backslash key to the top row between the plus/equal key and the backspace key. We find this a little odd and perhaps uncomfortable for some users' preference – especially for programmers who frequently use both the backslash and backspace keys.

Neither the mouse nor the keyboard is ergonomically designed – limited use is recommended. Also, some users have commented that the mouse, although smaller than a normal mouse, is extremely tall in the middle resulting in hand cramps. On the positive side, the mouse does have a convenient scroll wheel, and the keyboard’s keys are spill resistant.

Inland takes great pride in providing excellent customer service, and it is their policy to reply to all inquiries within 12 to 24 hours. Their website is easy to navigate with a specific Contact Us tab at the top of the homepage. Navigating to that page, you’ll find an automatically generated contact form, a direct phone number and an email address. Downloadable drivers and a quick start guide are also available on the website.

You must have an open USB port for the receiver in order to operate the Inland Pro wireless keyboard and mouse with your computer. Additionally, your computer’s operating system must have Windows XP, Vista or 7. Other operating systems may work, but they are not supported by Inland.

Summary:

While we do like the simple plug-and-play functionality of the Inland Pro Wireless 2.4GHz Optical Mice Keyboard Combo Set, we have to wonder why a computer accessory manufacturer like Inland would mix up the location of crucial keys on the keyboard. Computer programmers especially will not like the keyboard’s layout. However, if you aren’t planning on using the keyboard for extensive work, but simply for home entertainment purposes, this wireless keyboard and mouse would be an excellent choice.
